Presentations for the 10th International Conference on Public Information Reuse of Asedie are now available

On October 23, the 10th International Conference on Public Information Reuse took place at the headquarters of the Spanish Agency for Data Protection in Madrid. On this occasion, the chosen theme was "Information, an essential resource for economic development".

Since 2009 the main objective of Asedie International Conferences has been to serve as a platform to share knowledge and experiences, putting all those involved in the Information and Data Community together. These meetings have contributed to strengthen the relationship and collaboration between public and private sectors, facilitating the opening of new data sets and their possible reuse.

During the Conference, different speakers shared their vision of the Infomediary Sector, addressing the challenges and opportunities of public information reuse. For those who could not attend the meeting, the organization has shared the speakers’ presentations.

The event was opened by the President of Asedie, Dionisio Torre, who welcomed the attendees highlighting the importance of the Infomediary Sector as a social and economic motor. Next, Carlos Romero, Counsellor of Industry, Telecommunications and Audiovisual spoke about the situation of RISP Directive and the European Parliament and Council Regulation, regarding a framework that facilitate the free circulation of non-personal data in the European Union.

Jesús Rubí, Deputy to the Director of the Spanish Data Protection Agency, addressed the technical and organizational measures that organizations must implement to guarantee the correct treatment of personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). He highlight how Asedie has created a code of conduct for the Infomediary Sector that facilitates compliance with the regulations taking into account the specifications of the sector. This code offers standardized models for the different actions, providing legal security for both entities and citizens.

Barbara Ulbaldi, Head of OECD Digital Government and Open Data Policies Teams, closed the first part of the event, spoking about the economic value of co-creation. she showed several examples of public-private collaborations, such as Labora, a platform for civic and social entrepreneurs that offers state-of-the-art tools to drive data-driven innovation, or Ecomotion, a smart mobility initiative in Israel.

After the coffee break, there was a round table entitled "The implementation of Reuse and its evolution in the last 10 years", which had 4 participants.

Cristina Morales, General Deputy Director of Information Society Content from the Ministry of Economy and Business, highlighted the economic value of Infomediary Sector. In 2015, this sector generate more than € 1,550M for Spain. In his speech, she shared some good practices such as the importance of focusing on the creation of innovative products and services that solve specific problems of third parties. She ended his speech by highlighting open data growth in our country, which is reflected in an increasing number of initiatives, data sets or applications collected in the portal datos.gob.es.

On the other hand, Jorge Salazar, Coordinator of the Commercial Registry of the Registrar College, talked about annual accounts publicity, one of the most important projects of the Registrars College. He highlighted how the evolution of digital repositories has allowed processes automation for the infomediary companies. He also spoke about International Business Registries: Business Registers (EBR) and Business Registers Interconnection System (BRIS).

Pedro Vivas, Head of the IDE / SIG Support Area of ​​the Ministry of Development, focused on the value of geographic data to boost the economy, highlighting its role to address the Sustainable Development Goals. He also spoke about the new Inspire geoportal, and shared a series of recommendations to those who want to share open geographic data, such as listening to users, developing a sustainable policy over time or using standard and implicit licenses.
Finally, Enrique Crespo, Chief of the Information Service Access of the City of Madrid, commented on the importance of data to promote transparency. Taking as a reference a Madrid city tour, he showed examples of data sets available on the city's website, related to topics as diverse as air quality or location of water sources. All these datasets have been opened and can be reused to create applications or new value-added services
At the end of the event, for the fifth consecutive year, the 2018 Asedie Award was awarded to those individuals, companies or institutions that represent the best work or the greatest contribution to innovation and development of the Infomediary Sector. On this occasion, the Interoperable Information Structure (EI2A) of the Government of Aragon was awarded.

In addition, this year, in order to commemorate the tenth edition of the International Conference, Asedie awarded the National Geographic Institute a special prize in recognition of his career and evolution in open data world.

The event was closed one more time by Dionisio Torre, who encouraged the attendees to continue contributing to the creation of a more transparent society and a richer and more stable Information and Data Community.
